Assignment - December 18, 2009 (Block 5 Only)

  1. Continue researching your 20 movies for the movies database table. Use http://www.imdb.com/ to find the information. Be sure to save before closing!
  2. Complete the Database Scavenger Hunt located at http://www.mrsoshouse.com/ext/db/database.html. Put your answers in a separate Word document.
  3. Once you have completed both of these assignments, you may have free time to do something EDUCATIONAL :) Free Rice, Text Twist, Sporcle.com are all good choices!

Greeting Card and Winter Scene

When you are done with your calendar project, you are to create a holiday greeting card using Publisher and a winter scene using OpenOffice Draw. You will do the winter scene only if you finish the greeting card. Below are the instructions:

Greeting Card
  1. Open Publisher and choose 'Greeting Cards' from the list. 
  2. Select Side Fold Card or Top Fold Card.
  3. Click Yes when asked to automatically insert pages.
  4. At the bottom of your document you should see four pages. Page 1 is the front, 2/3 are the inside, and 4 is the back.
  5. Design a holiday greeting card for a friend or family member. You may use the pre-designed card templates in Publisher for ideas and you can also type "Holiday Greeting Cards" into Google images for ideas. However, you may NOT use a template for your design!
  6. Front of card MUST have a graphic, a border, and a message (e.g., Happy Holidays!, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, etc...).
  7. Inside left must have a holiday quote with the author's name included (search for one on the internet).
  8. Inside right must be the message and include a small graphic.
  9. Back must include: Designed Especially for you by: Your Name © 2009. (To make the copyright symbol type ( c ) and then hit space. It will automatically be created.)
  10. When you are finished, save it in your Desktop Publishing folder as "Holiday Greeting Card".
  11. Print in color (4600/4700) and hand in.
Winter Scene

  1. Use either OpenOffice Draw or Publisher.
  2. You will be creating a winter scene of your choosing using the drawing tools in either program.
    1. The winter scene must include use of fill colors, autoshapes, line styles, a text box, 3D, shadow effects, a border (if using Publisher), and a background.
  3. TYPE your name on the front of the document
  4. When you finish, save it in your MP2 folder as "Winter Scene"
  5. Print out and hand in.
